UNEMPLOYED PLAYERS.
MANY FAMILIAR NAMES. " WAR " ON SALARIES. The war on plavprs' salaries continues unabated. The favourite method of attack is to release an artist as soon as his or her contract comes up for renewal. The other day Warners let out, Ben Lyon, Winnie Lightner, Marilyn Miller, Lil Pngover, Charles Butterworth, "Donald Cook, Lillian Bond, Polly \\ alters, Ralf Harolde, Shirley Chambers, Qeraldine Barten, and George Ernest in one fell swoop. Of these only one (Polly Walters) has been snapped up by another studio (Radio). The rest join Ivan Lebedeff. Roberta Gale, Mary Astor, John Uarrow, Morgan Galloway, Marion Shilling, Marguerite Churchill, Fifi Dorsa.v, Peggy Shannon, Anna May Wong, Ernest Torrence, and Marjorie Rambeau in swelling the ranks of the unemployed. Once upon a time not one of these people would havo remained ''out" for more than a few weeks. But the producers are determined to kill resistance to salary cuts.
