CANNY SCOTS DUPED.
BOGUS TELEGRAM TRICK. Several " haul-headed " Scottish business men have been the victims of the telegram confidence trick, and a- typical instance was related lately.
A prominent Glasgow man was in London for a :'ew days. In his absence his wife received a telegram asking her to telegraph him £2O immediately.
Although thn address given was not his hotel, and his need of money after such a short alsence surprising, she complied with the request, thinking that her husband required the money to clinch an unexpected deal. On his return to Glasgow the husband was astounded to learn about the telegram, which, of course, he did not send.
Mostly the victims of the trick have kept quiet about their experience, but one victim who was defrauded of £lO stated that what mystified him was how the trickster learns the identity, and particularly the private address, of his intended victim. " I do not usually confide in strangers." lie. said, " and that aspect of the matter had me completely at a loss."
