HOSPITAL AUXILIARY.
MEETING OF COUNCIL. .At tho monthly council meeting ot tlie Auckland Hospital Auxiliary tliero was a representative attendance of members and Mrs. E. A. Kidd, president, presided. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs. E. H. Potter, the president, of Ihe Mount Eden branch, in tho loss of her daughter Marjorie. This was carried in silence, all standing. Tho Onehunga branch reported the usual activities at the Infirmary, including darning and distributing literature and sweets. An excellent concert was given by the Lyric Four, and much enjoyed by tho inmates. A motor drive, arranged by Mrs. T. J. (!. Neill, took place this week. These, drives are very much appreciated, but only four cars arrived this time. Mrs. Neill made an appeal for donations of gramophone records for the Men's Infirmary Ward, as the selections they liavo are nearly worn out with constant use. They would like to (hank Mr. Barr, chief librarian at the Auckland Library, for his gift of reading matter, which was very much needed. Mrs. A. E. Upton reported on behalf of (he Mount Eden branch that owing to the death of Miss Marjorio Potter, "the bring and buy" that was to have been held at Mrs. Potter's residence on April 15 had been postponed indefinitely. Tlie Mount Eden Congregational Church gave them their harvest festival and (lie fruit and vegetables were distributed among the deserving cases in Mount Eden by Mesdames Devereux, Potter, Reynolds, Sheldon and Cowio. All T.B. cases that Sister Muleock reported had been visited, and oil, malt and milk distributed. Some knitted goods made, by Mrs. McKenzie had been sent to them to sell. Mrs. Carr-Smith reported that (he Waiuku Women's Institute had sent a donation comprising 90 garments and pieces for making up. The total number of garments sent to the depot for the month was 223. Mrs. G. M. Evans said that Ihe purchasing and distributing committee had supplied the depot with 12 cut-out garments for outside workers, and the Birkdale Women's Institute with a parcel of cutout, garments. A parcel of made-up garments had also been received from this institute. Purchasing bad been done during tho month as required by tho depot. Mrs. P. Balgarnie reported that tho ways and means committee had raised £2O by means of (be jumble shop which was run in Newmarket for some days last month, and it was also felt that, the poor in that district had been helped in this way. It has been decided to repeat the experiment next week. Mrs. M. Maben reported that her committee had continued taking tho hospital children out for drives, which are always very much enjoyed. The drivers were Mrs. J. Wilson, Miss Tiarks, Miss Mahonev, Miss Dcvorc and Mrs. Campbell.
Mrs. M. Dreaver reported tliafc 111 answer to appeals made over the air, nine pairs of head-phones and four crystal sets had been sent in, and these are of great benefit to the patients. Many donations of clothing and literature had been received at the depot during the month and these are always thankfully received, and distributed among needy patients and their families. The transport committee continue to take patients to their homes ami this is a gveat boon to many who cannot afford their own transport. Some of the women patients in the hospital had expressed a desire to help with knitting, so the auxiliary supplied the wool and they made a number of beautiful baby clothes.
