HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. SQUALLY, WITH SHOWERS. Tlio following weather forecast for 72 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. IT. M. Vincent last evening:—A narrow ridge of high barometric pressure is intervening between two westerly depressions, another of the series of this class of disturbance now moving on to the Dominion. Unsettled weather is indicated in western and southern districts, with intermittent rain. Thunder probable in places near tlio west coast. Nortiiwestorly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale, and backing temporarily to south-west. Rough seas on the west coast and rough in the Bay of Plenty. Local outlook: Squally, with heavy showers. A temporary improvement is likely after about 36 hours. Mild temperatures, becoming colder to-morrow. Barometer, midnight, falling . . 29.95 in. Tlio Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—Tlio last of the present scries of westerly disturbances is moving on to the Dominion. Pressure is still high to the north and an anticyclone also covers the greater part of Australia. Indications aro for moderato to strong north-westerly to westerly winds, reaching galo force in places south of New Plymouth and Napier, backing to south-westerly during the next 24 hours. Seas rough on the wesi coast and off-shoro soyth of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate. '' Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west winds to gales, backing south-west; seas rough to heavy. Weather squally and changeable; rain in districts with a westerly aspect and extending later to scattered parts of eastern provinces. Thunder in places. Temperatures becoming cooler to-morrow.
