OTTAWA CONFERENCE.
BUSINESS MEN'S VIEWS. The resolutions of a special committee set up to consider the business of the Ottawa Conference were approved by the council of tho Auckland Chamber of Commerce yesterday. Ihe committee expressed the opinion that the New Zealand Government should afford British preference, not so much as in tho past by maintaining the level of duty on Empire goods and raising that of foreign goods, but by maintaining the lovel of duty on foreign goods and lowering that on Empire goods. The conference should fully explore the possibility of trade barriers existing within the Empire being removed, except where they are directed specifically against pests and diseases. There should be an Empire Economic Conference at least once in every two years in different parts of the Empire.
The committee reaffirmed the council's resolution in favour of tho inclusion in (ho New Zealand delegation of such men as Sir James Parr and the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, and tho suggestion that, a few outstanding business men should be included in the delegation in an advisory capacity.
