The hoard set up under the Transport Licensing Act, 193], to hear appeals from the Central Licensing Authority and from the district licensing authorities under the .Act will commence its first sitting at New Plymouth on ]\lay 3. There arc ten district authorities, six in the North Island and four in tho South, as well as the metropolitan licensing authorities in Ihe four centres. Tho Central Authority deals with all services which run into two or more districts and the four metropolitan and tho ten local district authorities deal with services running within their own districts. From all theso authorities, 15 in all, an appeal lies to the Transport Appeal Board, which consists of Mr. Justice Frnzor (chairman), Mr. Lislo, Alderton, of Auckland, and Mr. Thomas Jordan, of Master!on. About 60 appeals have been lodged with the Commissioner of Transport already and the board has made the following fixtures: —May 3, New Plymouth; May 5, Wanganui; May 9, Wellington; May 12. Napier; May 17, Rotorua; May 20, Auckland; M<\v 24, Hamilton; May 26, Wellington (for Nelson and Marlborough cases); May 28, Christchurch; Juno 2, Dunedin. The dates after May 20 are subject to revision and depend upon whether the board is able to deal with the appeals to be beard up to that dat.o. Mr. J. A. (iilmour has been appointed secretary to the board.
