RUGBY FOOTBALL.
SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. ! SIXTEEN TEAMS COMPETING. FAST PLAY ANTICIPATED. An entertaining programme of Rugby is promised at Eden Park to-morrow, when tho Auckland Rugby Union will hold a eoven-a-side tournament for senior team?. Sixteen teams will compete and Nos. 1 and 2. grounds will bo occupied from 2 p.m. onwards. Teams of midget school boys will also play on both grounds at intervals in order to give senior loams a Hpell between the seiui-finals and final. It is over 20 years sinco tho Auckland Union held a seven-a-sido tourney and if to-morow's tournament proves successful it is probable tho fixture will, be hold annually in future. Although early in the season tho majority of the players havo been training hard and. fast and exciting play is expected. Tho principal rules governing the tournament aro as follows:—Spells of seven minutes each way; two points for a try and ono for force-down; no kicks at goal and 110 line-outs. If a team kicks the ball over its own goal lino it will count as a force to the other side. Following are the teams; — GRAMMAR OLD BOYS. A Team.—\Y. Batty, Poller. Knight, Corner, Macindoo, Lendrum, Buckley. B Team.—.Scarborough, ID. Batty, Young, "Weir, Savory, Stubbs, Garlick. COLLEGE RIFLES. A Team.—W. Smith, Bishop. "Wales. Stewart, McMaster, Pierce, Gaudin. CITY. A Team.—To be selected from Allen (2), Doonan (2). Simmonds, Pattison, Mains, Logan, Crook, Kerr-Taylor, Bridle, Rocard. CLUB PRACTICES. Club practices will be held as follows tomorrow Marifit, all junior grades, on Sacred Heart College grounds," from 1.30 p.m. onwards; Y.M.C.A., Show Grounds No. 3, from 1.30 to 3.15 p.m.; Show Grounds No. 1, from 1.30 to 3.15 p.m.; Grammar third grade B, Show Grounds No. 1, at 3.15 p.m.; Grafton and City junior grades. Show Grounds No. 2, from 1.30 to 3.15 p.m.; College Rifles, Show Grounds No. 2, from 3.15 p.m.; Marathon, Show Grounds No. 3, from 3.15 p.m.; University, King's College grounds, 2 p.m.; Grammar third grade A and fourth grades, Auckland Grammar School, 2 p.m., all other grades 2.45 p.m., on same ground; Eden, third, open and intermediate, Gribble-Hirst Park, at 2 p.m., and 3.15 p.m.; Technical Old Boys juniors. The management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union has decided to invito applications from unions for the poßition of manager of tho loam to- visit Australia th.s season. AMATEUR ATHLETICS. WINTER COMPETITIONS. The following winter sports comipittee was elected at a meeting of the athletic section of the Auckland Amateur Athletic olid Cycle Club:—Messrs. W. Morton (president), H. McNeil (honorary secretary), N. F. Cooper, J. C. Tipping. -T. Bowie, T. Elliott, sen., AY. Stewart, iV. G. Thompson find R. Munro. The competitions, which will comiaenct at the Outer Domain to-morrow, at two o'clock, will, during the year. comprise chiefly tiprints, steeplechases, field events and harrier running, points for all events to count for the Kolin Cup. In addition races ovsr the track distances will be run for tho club's Y'ictor Ludorum and Sportsman Cups, trophies which were not competed for during last track season.
