USEFUL WORK AT EPSOM.; KEWPIE'S GUY IMPROVING. MOKO CIRL TROTS SOUNDLY. BY ABAYDOS. Although iiie cinder track ut Epsom did not provide fnst footing yesterday, it enabled horses with engagements at the To Al'oha and Auckland meetings! to perfotm useful work-outs. .Kewpie.'s Guy, Dan Direct and Bingen Crest, candidates for the chief raco at To Aroha, gave sound displays. Kewpie's Guy (W. Willetts) worked a, mile and a-half in a mariner >vhich indicated that she is returning to form. After covering a milo in 2,30 eho canio home tho last half-milo in 1.10, and was running on Rtrongly at the finish. Kewpie's Guy. who has been suffering from kidney troublo. looks much brighter than for some time past. Bingen Crest (F. J. Smith) was not asked for her best whilo working over threo circuits. She paced freely and went at a, 2.22 gnit over the. last six furlongs. Bingen Crest will take her place in the field for (he fe Aroha Trotting Club Handicap, and if she fails to win will bo started in tho Farewell Handicap, in which sho will bo suited by the shorter journey. Great Fame (A. T. Newdick) and Dan Direct (A. I'atten) were associated over a milo and a-half. Great Fame led until tivc furlongs from home, when Dan Direct ran up to his stable, mate and then drew out to finish well clear in 3.44. Dan Direct Tan his lust half-milo in 1.11. Moko Girl (W. Dye) gave a splendid exhibition of trotting over a milo and a-half. which she ran in 3.12. She was not timed over the first half, but was assisted over the next circuit by Prince Ft aw ah (R. A. Shepherd) and Mazda (\V. Willetts). Together they covered tho next half-milo in 1.14. Trotting faultlessly. Moko Girl came over the last half-milo in 1.11, a good effort. Prince Etawah and Mazda ran on an extra half, Prince Etawah doing best to run the distance in 1.12. Prince Etawah did not pace with his xisual dash. Mazda paced well free-legged, but. was not fully extended. Auto Machine's Task. Auto Machine (A. Brown) was given strong work over two miles, but was not out to make time, but hit out resolutely over the last mile in 2.28 Auto Machine looks well and will bo in good heart if started in the sprint at Epsom. Oliver Thorpe (\V. Willetts) paced very soundly over three laps. He was allowed to increase the speed from the mile post arid come home in 2.22. the last half-mile in 1.10. Oliver Thorpe is making splendid progress and will bo in fine trim for the Auckland meeting. Carnui (F. J. Smith) was given sound work over a milo and a-half. Ho was not fully extended, but ran the final mile comfortably in 2.30. Carnui, who had a good spell after ihe Christmas meeting, is again betrinnine: to allow a rplurn to form. Netherton (W. Willetts) was given useful work over a milo and a-hnlf. Ho paced more evenly thnn on Tuesday and wound up by running the last half-mile in 1.114. Modern Light (F. ,T. Smith), who has been having an easy time since r.he won a double at the last Auckland meeting, paced freely over three circuits. Sho was not hurried at any stage, but ran the final lap at a 2.30 milo clip. Fisher (A. T. Newdick) was not bustled to run a mile and a-auarter at a 2.32 speed. He paced evenly. Miss Braeside (F. ,T. Smith) and Guid Hairst (C. Smith) made several attempts to go from tho mile and a-half post, but each time the 1 rotter refused to Btrike a gait. Guid Hairst then ran a mile and a-ouarter on his own, running the finr>l half-mile easily in 1.14. With cross hopples on. Miss Braeside was given another try-.nut and trotted soundly without being asked to go really fast. Ray de Quest Fit. Gold Dial (K. Morrison) gave a useful display over two miles She w-os taken steadily for the first part of the journey, hut improved over the second mile run in 2.30. Key de Quest (J. O'lvane) giivc a sound display of unhopplod pacing The brother to Benefice looks all the better for his racing at ThaplC3 and should strip a very fit horse at Epsom next week. Win Huon (C. G. Leo) was allotted a useful task on the sand and trotted evenly throughout. While he lacks brilliancy. Win Huon's solidness should stand him in rood stead in his present class. Star Pronto (B Dyer), after refusing several times to go awav correctly from a standing start, was allowed to run along over a mile and a-ouarter from a moving start. He paced in good style, although be was not asked to show his best speed.

Brent Zolock is a useful pacer, who possesses both speed and stamina. and should pivo a yood account of himself at tho meeting. Tho Canterbury reinsmen. .7. S. Shaw and C. S. Donald, are <lllO at To A roll a to-dnv to drive their respective representatives. Mr. Penalty and Sister I?ose. SALE OF RACEHORSES. A sale of racehorses will be conducted by "Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., at the Ellerslie racecourse at '2.:fo p.m. to-dnv. when the lots to lie submitted will includo Sir Motul and the two-year-old Air Lassie.
