INJURED BY LIONESS.

CIRCUS EMPLOYEE'S ESCAPE. Severe lacerations to the right arm were received by George Soars, aged 18, an employee of Sole's circus, at Narrabri, New South Wales, recently, when ho was clawed by a lioness belonging to the circus. Soars was passing through the menagerie, when a fellow-employee called him. He walked over to speak to the man, and, as he passed a cage in which were five lionesses, one of the animals thrust out. a paw, swept £oars off the ground, and endeavoured to maul him. Calling for help, the youth managed to clutch a near by post, and, after a hard struggle, managed to break from the grasp of the infuriated animal. Owing mainly to the fact that he was wearing a loosely-fitting coat, he escaped serious injury.
