SURPRISE TO THE COURT. When a. merchant stepped forward in a Sydney Court the other day to provide bond for a man who was to bo bound over, ho was asked the usual question. " Have you property above your just debts, valued at £40?" was tho inquiry. " I have property worth probably £200,000 and I pay £IOO a week income tax," tho merchant replied.
