HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. UNSETTLED, WITH SHOWERS. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:—A series of westerly depressions is passing in the south, an extensive area of low barometric pressure being located on the southern Tasman Sea. Unsettled weather with intermittent rain is indicated in western and' southern districts. Mainly fair to fine in east coast areas. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to strong, squally at times. Rough seas on the west coast. Local outlook:—Unsettled, with occasional showers, although fair intervals will intervene. Barometer* midnight, rising . . 30.10 in. Midnight, Wednesday . . . . 29.951n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 65d0g.; Minimum, 61deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A wedge of high pressure was crossing New Zealand today, but another rather intense depression was moving over the Tasman Sea. Indications are for westerly winds, moderate to strong and squally at times, backing to south-westerly after from 24 to 36 hours. Rough on the west coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; ejjpewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea; Strong northwest to west winds, backing later to south-west; seas rough to heavy. Weather mainly fair at first in eastern provinces, but changeable generally with rain at times in western und far southern districts.
