ELECTION PENDING. ASSEMBLY UNDER GUARD. FIRST SESSION SINCE RIOTS. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received April 20, 5.5 p.m.) ST. JOHNS, April 19. A general election is to be held in Newfoundland probably at the end of May or in June. A statement to this effect was made by the Prime Minister, &ir Richard Squires, in reply to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. F. C. Alderdice, during the first session of the House of Assembly since the riots on April 5. To-day's sitting was held without untoward incident as the House met behind doors which were closed to strangers and with a cordon of 200 police around the Colonial Building.
