Mrs. F. E. Gilbert, of Wellington, is staying at the Station Hotel.

Sirs. Edwin Lash has returned to New Plymouth after a visit to Auckland.

Mrs. J. Taylor, of Eltham, has arrived in Auckland, where she will in future reside.

Miss N. Bell, of Hastings, is visiting Auckland and is staying at tho Grand Hotel.

Mrs. K. M. Coppin, of Rotorua, is a visitor to Auckland, and is staying at the Station Hotel.

Mrs. John Murray and Mrs. M. Fraser, of Capetown, are visiting Auckland and are staying at tho Grand Hotel.

Mrs. W. Bridgeman, of Heriot Row, Dunedin, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Stuart McKay, of Taka-puna.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Levien, accompanied by Miss Rose Hardie-Neil, have returned to Auckland after a visit to Hamilton.

Miss Marjorie Todd, of Invercargill, has been spending a. fortnight with Mrs. Lewis, of Stanley Point. She will leave to-morrow for Rotorua.

Mrs. Isobel Halligan, of Wellington who has been staying with her sister Mrs. Nairn Le Petit., of Mount Albert returned south last evening.

Miss Sybil Mulvany has left lor a visit to Napier and will be away for about a month. Her sister, Miss Josephine Mulvany, has taken up her residence at 5, Alfred Street.

Mrs. Gladstone Ward and family arrived in Wellington this week by the Monowai on their return to New Zealand from an extensive tour abroad, which included Palestine, Turkey, Syria, Italy and England.

The Misses Beresford opened their danc ing 6eason with a very successful even ing in the Masonic. Hall, Belgium Street recentlv. Two clever ballets were exe cuted and Miss Reresford's orchestra sup plied the latest dance music.

A most successful dance was held in the Star Theatre, Papnkura, on luesday evening, by the Papakura League Football Club. A monte carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. J. Rogers, and a cake competition by Mr. Alex Beams.

Mrs. Mauri Elizabeth Birchall was ordained in the Gliristchurch Cathedral on Sunday by Bishop West-Watson. She left Oamaru to work under the Dev. 1-t. de Lambert in the parish of St. James, Riccarton, and is now to follow her ministry in the parish of luahiwi.

Miss Dorothy Bridges, of Melbourne, has arrived in Wellington en route for Hastings, where she will be the guest of her aunt, Mrs. R. Braithwaite. Miss Bridges is the daughter of a distinguished Australian soldier, the late Sir William Bridges, who commanded the First Division of the Australian Expeditionary Force for Gallipoli and was killed at Ihe landing.

A successful At Home was held on the lawns of the Rocky Nook Croquet Club, a large gathering of members, friends and representatives of many clubs being present. Progressive croquet and bowls were played, the winners being as ( follows Croquet, first session, ' A Miss Thomson, "B" Mrs. Grey; hidden numbers, Mrs. Robinson. Mrs. Bardel!; second session, "A" Mrs. Mc< onnell, "B" Mrs. Nixon; hidden numbers, Mrs. Jurv, Mrs. Horsepool; bowling, Mrs. Wvles, Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Alder. Guessing competitions were won by Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Haite.
