A ? incenl la.st evening:— The depression from tho Tasman Sea is moving on to the Dominion, and barometric pressure is gradually decreasing over New Zealand in consequence. Expect cloudy to overcast weather, with rain generally, heavy in central districts of the North Island. Northerly to northwesterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale. Seas becoming rough and increasing southward from Cape Egmont and East Cape. Local outlook : Heavy rain is indicated. Milder temperatures. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 33.001 tl. Midnight, Monday .. .. 30.20 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 03clcg.; Minimum, 55rieg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —The recent anticyclone is now passing away and a rather deep depression of a westerly typo is advancing toward Now Zealand, its front having already readied the. South Island. Indications are for moderate to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait; a change to southerly setting in during tomorrow in tho far South, later extending northward. Seas rough south of Cape Egmont and offshore south of Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong northerly to westerly winds, backing later to soutlierlies; seas rough. Weather cloudy and unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect and in the far South, with rain developing; elsewhere fair at first, but with increasing cloud and later conditions becoming more generally unsettled.
