LONG FLIGHT BEGUN.
MR. SCOTT'S VENTURE. ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA. HOPES TO CREATE RECORD. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 19, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, April 19. Mr. C. W. A. Scott, who is to attempt to lower the time for the flight to Australia, left Lympne at 5 a.m. to-day. "I do not want to start too early in the morning or to get too far south before dawn," said the airman prior to his departure. " I shall then have three nights in which there will be a good moon, and that will be a great, help. I shall use the same machine I flew from Australia last year and shall carry 100 gallons of petrol. That will give me a range of 1700 miles." Asked if he would keep the bargain with Mr. J. A. Mollison to have dinner together in London after each had broken a record, Mr. Scott said: "Certainly. I havo had a message from Mollison to-day wishing me the best of luck." Mr. Scott intends to try to beat Mr. C. H. Butler's record of 9 days 2 hours 21 minutes, and to reach Port Darwin in eight days.
