NATIONS' ARMS.
IMPORTANT MOVE. REDUCTION BY STAGES. FREQUENT REVISIONS. AGREEMENT AT GENEVA. PRINCIPLE ACCEPTED. By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 19, 10.35 p.m.) GENEVA, April 18. The General Committee of the Disarmament Conference to-day examined concrete proposals of the French, American and Italian delegations. The committee accepted the principle of arms cuts by stages. The Russian, Turkish and German delegates pressed for a single convention to settle the disarmament problem once for all, but the British, French, Italian and others supported the following resolution:
" That the reduction of armaments can be achieved only by stages and by means of frequent" revisions." All the delegates eventually accepted this. Sir John Simon (Britain) laid .stress upon the fact that it was the first stage which counted and that the first stage should see the fullest possible measure of reduction.
