TERRORISTS SENTENCED.
CRIMES IN INDIA. ONE TO BE EXECUTED. REVELATIONS AT THE TRIAL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 19, 11.25 p.m.) CALCUTTA. April 19. For causing the deaths of three persons, including a police officer, last year seven youths at Patna, in the Bihar and Orissa Province, were sentenced to-day. One was condemned to death, five to transportation for life and one to seven years' imprisonment. During the trial there were remarkable exposures of the Indian terrorist organisation now known as the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army. TROUBLE IN COUNTRY. CLASHES WITH EXTREMISTS. SERIOUS CASUALTIES RESULT. British Wireless. RUGBY, April 18. In a statement circulated in the House of Commons reviewing the events of last week in Tndia, Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary of State for India, referred to a recrudescence of the " Red Shirt" activities in part of the Peshawar district north of the Kabul River, where large crowds made efforts, with considerable success, to interfere with the elections. The police had to be reinforced by troops to disperse the stone-throwing crowds, who were armed with laths. In one instance the police were compelled to fire. Twelve policemen were injured, two seriously, and one rioter was killed. After the poll the situation was quieter. In spite of special efforts by the Indian Congress to rouse public interest in " National Week," the results were singularly small. A renewal of disturbances occurred at Allahabad, where, owing tn continued brick and slone throwing, 30 rounds were discharged. Two rioters were killed and 20 injured. The situation was controlled within two to three days. Activity also occurred at Cawnpore, but the position improved quickly when the police were reinforced, and <in Bombay " National Week" proved almost a complete failure. Elsewhere throughout India the effects of " National Week" were negligible. In several provinces it passed almost unnoticed.
