ECONOMY CUTS.
Sir, —Day after day I read the wails of those who are cut to the bone by the recent economy proposals. With some of them I have little sympathy, viz., those who voted for the Liberal Government under a brave but exhausted leader, who proclaimed that lie would spend and borrow millions on building railways that would give no return and who also poured out millions on the State Advances so that people could borrow 95 per . cent, of the money for their new house. Let those gullible ones suffer and learn by their experience. . But for those who had vision and who ■ tried in every way to prevent that avalanche of spending, I have the utmost sympathy. Why should we pay thousands a, year to keep Bellamy's open for a lot of men who would, by keeping their, brains clear, give us better laws and, incidentally, refrain from useless argument and brawling ? Why should w© support a lot of unnecessary members in the House when 12 to 20 good men could give better results ? The Civil Service has been cut down. oLet the pruning knife be applied also to:the members. Also, why should wo pay £SOO a year to members of the Railway Board, when Mr. Sterling, if free from political influence, could run the railways on a paying basis ? Oh, for a Mussolini in this country. Disgusted With Everything.
