INTERESTS OF FARMERS.
SOUTHERN THAMES UNION. * [FROM Ol'R OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AKOHA, Monday.The annual meeting of the Southern Thames sub-provincial branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union took place at Waitoa to-day, Mr. A. Topham The secretary, Mr. A. F. Robinson, stated that in spite of the hard times the union was still endeavouring to grapple with the difficulties which confront the New Zealand farmers. The following officers were "elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr. A. Topham ; vice-presidents, Messrs. McLean, Malcolm and Keightly; delegates to tjie Provincial Conference. Messrs. Ferguson, Barron, Keightly, Pirritt, Mikkelson, Clarke and Wratfc. A motion to the effect that the 1 names Valley Power Board be supported in its efforts to have duties removed from British electric stoves was pnssed. Following some discussion it was decided to urge the New Zealand delegates attending the Ottawa Conference to give full attention to the movement of free trade with Britain, and to press for all round protective duties throughout the Empire.
