PASSOVER BREAD BURNED.
LOSS ASSESSED AT £750. FIRE IN JEWISH BAKERY. Motzo valued at about £750, prepared for the Jewish passover festival; was destroyed by fire at a bakery at North Melbourne recently. The plant and oven were not damaged, and the bakery resumed operations at once. Stocks of the special flour used in making the bread were available, and the factory, which meets almost the entire Australian demand, was able to supply all the bread required. Tho fire occurred in the upper storey, and the bread burned fiercely, the flames leaping through the ventilators and skylights in the roof. Good work by the fire brigade prevented the fire spreading to the lower floor and saved the plant from damage. Supplies of the bread for New Zealand, Western Australia, and South Australia were sent from the bakery a short time previously, and normally baking would have ceased tho day after the fire. Then, however, baking had to be continued probably with double shifts to meet tho demand for bread for the Passover. Ihe factory ordinarily bakes for three months only each year.
