THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. QUIET CONDITIONS PREVAIL. Conditions on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday were very quiet, only three sales being completed. There was again a strong demand for Government securities, but for most issues holders did not quote. The 1936 and 1937 per cent', bond issues were sought unchanged at £97 ss, but holders were not listed at any call. After a sale 5s higher at £94 15s, the 1938 41, per cent, inscribed stock was in demand at £94, holders former quotation of £95 not being repeated. For the 1936 and 1937 5 $ per cent, stock buyers were prepared to pay 5s higher at £97 10s, but there was no response from holders. Thei'o was nominal bidding in banks and insurance. Commercials of Australia were sought Id lower at 13s 9d, and holders quoted Id lower at 14s Id. There was no change in New South Wales and New Zealands, but holders of Unions of Australia quoted 2s lower at £6 16sNew Zealand Insurance were sought 3d lower at 355, holders again quoting 36s 6d. Holders of South British lowered quotations 3d to 495.

Levels in other sections were generally maintained. In Auckland Gas, both ordinary and contributing, holders made a concession of 3d, quoting 21s aijd 15s respectively. New Zealand Breweries were in demand 3d higher at 22s 9d, and holders made a concession of 6d to quote 23s 3d. There were two safts in British Tobacco 6d higher at 265. More were sought at the same price, but holders firmed at 26s 9d. For Colonial Sugars, buyers were prepared to pay 10s higher at"£36 10s, but there was no response from • holders. Offers for Wilsons Cement were increased 3d to 25s 3d, holders continuing to quoto 26s 6d. In mining Waihis changed hands 2d higher at 16s 9d, the demand subsequently weakening 3d to 16s 6d, while holders quoted Id lower at 16s lid.
