BUTTER FOR BRITAIN.

MARCH IMPORTS INCREASE.

GREATER EMPIRE OUTPUT. NEW ZEALAND'S EXPANSION. A further substantial increase in the importation of butter into Great Britain is shown by last month's returns, compared with the corresponding period in the two preceding years. According to statistics supplied by the Dairy Produca Board, Britain's importations from all sources during March in the past threo years were as follows 1032. 1031. 1930. „ . Tons. Tons. Tons. Imports from Empire countries increased by 7519 tons. Stocks of Butter. The re-exports of butter from Britain in March also show a large increase, a total of 3196 tons being despatched, as against 2380 tons 12 months earlier. Germany took 726 tons (compared with 113 tons in March, 1931); Belgium, 6C9 (247); France, 501 (987); Irish Free State, 450 ( 497) ; Netherlands, 426 (119) ; Switzerland, 112 ( —); Canada, United States, 372 (404). The estimated stocks of butter in London on April 1, including private and provincial stores, and steamers not discharged, totalled 18,100 tons, against 10,700 tons on a similar date in 1931, and 18,000 tons in 1930. Stocks in New Zealand, including those loaded into steamers which had not sailed by April 1, and New Zealand stocks afloat,' totalled 31.566 tons, against 30,000 tons in 1931 and 27,368 tons in 1930. The total New Zealand shipments last month were 9072 tons, of which 8971 tons went to Britain. In March, 1931, a total of 9631 tons was shipped, of which 9532 went to Britain. The Dominion's exports since the commencement of the export season on August 1 last amount to 71,329 tons, against 67,567 tons in the same period of the previous season. Cheese Imports. Cheese imports into Britain during March were nearly 2000 tons greater than in March, 1931. Details are as follows: 1932. 1931. 1930. Tons. Tons. Stocks in New Zealand and stocks afloat 011 April 1 totalled 29,800 tons, compared with 29,835 tons in 1931 and 30,939 tons in 1930. Last month New Zealand exported 8374 tons of cheese, making the total for the season 57,780 tons. The figures in 1931 were 11.992 tons and 64,699 tons respectively. With the exception of five tons, all of last month's exports went to Britain.

BUTTER AND CHEESE PRICES.

MARKETS REMAIN QUIET. Merchants have received the following cablegrams from their London houses, shown in parentheses, dated April 15; — A. H. Turnbull and Company, Limited (W. Weddel and Company., Limited) :—• Butter: Danish. 121s to 1225; New Zealand, finest salted, 106s to 109s: Australian, 1055 to 107s. New Zealand cheese: White, 625; coloured, 635. Both markets are quiet. New Zealand Producers' Co-operative Marketing Association, Limited:—Butter: New Zealand, 106s to 108s; unsalted, 113s to 116s; Danish, 121s to 1225. The market is quiet. Cheese: White, 61s to 625; coloured, 62s to 635. The market is quiet.

Mr. H. S. Withers (A. C. Rowson) : Butter: Finest, 108s; first grade, 107s. Cheese: White, 625; coloured. 635. Both markets slow, with firm undertone. PRODUCE BOARD'S REPORT. The New Zealand Dairy Produce Board has received the fallowing market, report from its London office, dated April 15, last week's prices being in parentheses:— Butter.—New Zealand: Salted, 106s to 109s (103s to ]10s): unsalted, 113s to 116s (114s to 116s ). 106s fn 103s equals approximately lid f.o.b. Deliveries. New Zealand, 1268 tons; in store, 5350 tons. Australia: Salted and unsalted, 105s to 107s (107s to 109s). Deliveries, Australian, 2!00 tons; in store, 2062 tons. Argentine: Unsalted, 100s to 102s. exceptional 104s (100s to 102s 1. South African, 102s to 105s (100s to 105s). Danish: F.0.b., 103s (101s); spot, 121s to 122s (! 17s to 118s). Dutch: Unsalted. 130s to 132s (128s to 130s). Market quiet, retail prices unchanged. New Zealand at Is 2d; Danish at Is 3d. This week's trade in New Zealand butter was the slowest experienced this season. Cheese.—New Zealand : White. 61s 6d to 62s (635) ; coloured, 62s 6d to 63s (64s>. 61s 6d to 63s equals approximately 6d f.o.b. Deliveries, New Zealand, 21.500 crates; in store, "0.297 crates. Australian: White, 61s (625); coloured, 62s (635). Canadian: White-and coloured, 68s to 70s (63s to 725). In store, 97.368 boxes. The market is quiet. New Zealand retail price is 3d. The board lias also received the following advice from iis agent in Canada: —Butter: New York, I9A cents; Montreal, 19 cents.

STOCK SALES. MORRIXSYILLE QUOTATION'S. The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports .that at, the Morrinsville sale on Friday a good yarding of all classes of stock was penned. Prices for store lambs were in advance of thoss at the last sale, late rates beins maintained for fat sheep.
