HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. FAIR TO CLOUDY. Tho following weather forecast for 4o hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— The area of high barometric pressure is still located over the Dominion. Pressure is relatively low to (he northward, and (here arc indications of tho development of a cyclonic storm system 011 the north-west Tasman Pea. Indications favour chiefly fair to fine weather in most districts, although with increasing cloudiness, and rain following in northern and east coast areas after about 24 hours. Warm day temperatures and cold nights. Easterly to north easterly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing, and increasing. Seas becoming rough and increasing on the east coast. Local outlook: Fail' to cloudy to-day, then becoming overcast, and heavy rain following to-morrow. Barometer. midnight, rising . . 30.35 in, Midnight, Thursday . . . . 30.05 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, Csdog.; Minimum, 53cieg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —Tho anti-cyclone referred to recently is now moving on to New Zealand, pressure having risen considerably in Eastern Australia. Indications are for south to south-east winds, "moderato mainly, but strong in the Far North: Seas rough north of Napier, and a considerable swell in and north of Cook Strait, but moderating gradually. In tho eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate and variable winds, and a considerable southerly swell, but decreasing. Tho weather will be. fine in most districts, but there will be some scattered showers still between Hawke's Bay and East Cape and in the Far North. Temperatures cool, with some inland frosts.
