CRITIC AND DOCTOR.
STORY OF TWO BILLS. COMEDY OF MEDICAL ADVICE. Much amusement has been aroused in medical and literary circles in Paris by a story about a doctor and a well-known dramatic critic who were present at tho first night of a French adaptation of " King Lear," produced at tho Odeon. Meeting tho critic on tho steps of (ho theatre after the performance, the doctor asked what his conclusions were. After having explained at" length what he thought about the piece, tho critic asked the medical man to give him some advice about a very bad cough. The doctor complied and oil tho next day sent in his bill: " For a medical consultation outside the Odeon, 50 francs (about lis)." Tho critic, in reply, sent the following communicationTo explaining 'King Lear* outside the Odeon, 50 francs; for having caught cold while waiting patiently for tho doctor to understand this explanation, 50 francs; to deduct for medical consultation, 50 francs; sum due, 50 francs."
