RESIDENT OF AUCKLAND. SURVIVOR OF WAR EPISODE. The 95th birthday of Captain Joseph Scott, the only remaining member of the garrison of.Pukekohe East Church, which was attacked by Waikato Maoris in September, 1883, was celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Corbett-Scott, of Epsom. Several of Captain Scott's fnends gathered to congratulate him, including Mr. John Udy, aged 92. a lifeJong friend of his. Captain Scott, who was born in Cornwall, came to New Zealand with his parents in the late 'fifties and took up land at Pukekohe East. He later removed to Taranaki, and subsequently settled at Epsom. Captain Scott ig remarkably active considering his years.
