CANADIAN SHIPS.
PROPOSED ACQUISITION. PROBLEM FOR GOVERNMENT. OTTAWA. April 7. Propositions have been received from private companies to take over the New Zealand and West Indies services of the Canadian Government's mercantile marine. The fact was reported to-day by the Minister of Railways, Mr. R. J. Manion, to the House of Commons' Committee on Railways and Shipping. Several of these proposals were from companies largely American, and this had created a somewhat difficult situation for the Government. For that reason, said the Minister, the whole question of disposing of th® Government fleet was still sub judice, but it would have to be decided this vear.
