THE WHANGAREI UNION. GOOD PROSPECTS FOR SEASON. [from: our own correspondent.] WHANGAREI. Friday. There was a record attendance at the " annual meeting of the Whangarei Rugby Union last evening. _ In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman, Mr. C. P. Collins, said that on the whole the season had been a successful one, and the prospects for the coming season were ex-, r ceedingly bright. Five new clubs had en- , tered tho competitions, four for the junior ' section, and one for junior and senior. . The New Zealand Union had granted the Whangarei 'Union's applica- . lion for a loan of £SOO, and this would be utilised almost wholly in providing an additional playing-ground in Rugby Park area. DonorH of trophies were heartily thanked::; for their generous gifts. The election of officers resulted:—Patron, " Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P.; president, Mr, C. F. Collins; vice-president, Mr. A. Steele: treasurer, Mr. G. W. "Watson; audito-, Mr. C. Coote. The management committee, which is composed of one delegate nominated by each club has yet to be eiected. It was resolved that it be a rocommenda- /«> tion to the management committee that a sole selector be appointed for the senior ,V grade, that three selectors be appointed for the junior grade; and that Mr. N. Dicke7 be re-appointed a3 selector for the third -> grade division. It was further recommended that in the * selection of any representative team, the respective club selector or selectors be asked to nominate to the union those player*,' who are considered by them fit for selection for representative honours. Mr. L. A. John3on was elected as dele-—, gate to the North Auckland Rugby Union.' After a brief discussion on the proposed' new rules as contained in a circular letter from tho New Zealand Union, it was decided to favour a scrum formation with th ree men in the front row, but not neces- , saiily the 3—2—3 formation set down by the International Board. At the annual meeting of the Pukekohe Rugby Referees' Association, held last evening, the following officers were elected:— President. Mr. Lauer; vice-president, Mr. J. Reynolds; secretary, Mr. L. K. Brown: delegates to the South Auckland Referees 1 -? Association. Messrs. F.. Pollock and Jrj Reynolds; delegate to the Pukekohe Subunion, Mr. H. Pleydell: appointment com-, J mittee, Messrs. There was a full attendance of delegates., at a special meeting of the Morrinsville Rugby Union. A district scheme for thfc' union, the provision of a training 6hed and the 3—2—3 scrum formation were discussed.. A motion affirming the principle of t!je-_ district system for clubs was defeated by-.' a. large majority. The present club system ' . will continue. . It was decided to increase the present; grandstand accommodation on the recrea->■ tion ground, and to provide additional', dressing space. The delegates to the Waikato Union were given a free hand regarding the scrum con-' 1 troversy, the union deciding to carry on with the 2—3—2 formation until it coul|d be seen how the bigger unions, which intended to adopt other formations, fared.. THE PUTARURU UNION. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUTARURU, Friday. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Putaruru Rugby Union. Mr. R. G. Hutton presided. A successful past season was reported. The following officers were elected:— Patron, Mr. A. G. Leggatt; vice-patron,. Mr. W. Yandle; president, Mr. R. T. Smith; vico-presidents, Messrs. Hutton, PaZton,' Parker, Smith and Prewitt: secretary. Mr.J. B. Rolfe; treasurer, Mr. J. _R. Lockhead ; senior selector, Mr. H. Louden: management committee, Messrs.
