BURKE STREET WHARF. SUCTION PUMP OPERATING. [FitoM ouit own connEsroNdent. ] THAMES, Friday. Complaints having been made to the Thames Harbour Board concerning tho silting at Burke Street Wharf, it was decided' recently to instal a suction pump under the wharf in an endeavour to dispose of Ihe silt. A member of the board, Mr. N. Jonas- | sen, who has had considerable engineering experience, devised a drag to bring the silt to the pump. A trial was given in the presence of the board yesterday afternoon and it proved very satisfactory. A large cut was made in the. fairway and tho pump was able to cope with the flow of silt rnd sand. The board held its monthly meeting later in the day and decided that the work should be continued, members expressing their gratification at what had already been done.
