LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY.
SUCCESSFUL PAST YEAR. TWO LIFE MEMBERS ELECTED. " The past year has been a success financially and artistically,'' said the president of th« Auckland Little Theatre Society, Mr. L. P. Leary, at the annual meeting, held in the society's rooms last t evening. There was a large attendance of members. The president said that the accounts for the year showed a successful financial period, while the membership subscriptions received already since the beginning of the present year, April 1, had almost equalled the amount received during the whole of the past year. The society had received a certain amount of criticism, much of which had been constructive and had been acted upon by the executive committee. The only suggestions which it had not been able to accept were a desire on the part of a section of members for the production of " provocative'!. society's future acting on behalf of the majority of members," continued the president. " When it was suggested that we should produce ' Anna Christie' we received letters of objection from all ters, and the proposal was dropped. It has been our aim during the year to provide balanced programmes." _ In conclusion Mr. Leary said that while the present membership figures were favourable as compared with the roll last year, the membership campaign had not been completed and it was not possible to state how many members the society would have during the coming year. The accumulated funds showed a total of £650 at the end of the year's working. When the election of officers was held the president announced that Sir George Fowlds had resigned from the position of patron, and that he himself would retire from active participation in the society's affairs, after acting as president since its inception six years ago, owing to pressure of private business. On the motion of Mr. F. E. McCallum both Sir George Fowlds and Mr. Leary were appointed life members of the society. _ The retiring members ~of the committee, Messrs. J. Lowe, F. 'L. Armitage, D. L. Nathan and W. B. Britfain, were reelected.
