Mr. C. Van Bergen, of the Shell Oil Company, arrived at Auckland from Us Angeles" by tho Sonoma yesterday in tin course of "a business tour of the world. He is at the Central Hotel.

The Rev. C. Hyde, of the staff of St. Gabriel's, Pinilico, a notable London church, has accepted the assistantcuracy of All Saints', Palmerston North. This "post has been rendered vacant bv the departure for England of the Rev.. J. R. Nield.
Captain T. B. Sewell, commander of the intercolonial passenger steamer Maunganui, became seriously ill at Wellington and had to go on shore. He was relieved by Captain J. Rankine, who brought the vessel. to Auckland, where the command was taken over by Captain W. W. Hender.
