MAILS FOR THE SOUTH.
CLOSING TIMES ALTERED, EFFECT OF EXPRESS CHANCES. With the alteration in the running of the ordinary express train from Auckland to Wellington,, which will, now depart at 3 p.m. instead of at 7.40 p.m., the closing time for Southern mails has been altered. The change 'will come into effect on Monday.
Mail, to be forwarded by this express will close at the chief post office at 1.30 p.m., the late fee closing time at the post office being 2.15 p.m. and at the railway station box 2.50 p.m. Mails to connect with the train will close at the principal suburban post offices at 1 p.m. As this provides the principal despatch for southern offices of all classes of correspondence and -only a retrictf'd space is available for the conveyance of letter mail only on fhe limited express, business firms and the public are urged by the chief postmaster to post, whenever possible early enough to connect with the first express. -
At the same time, an alteration in the closing time for mails to be forwarded by the limited express is notified. Instead of closing at the chief post office at, 4.40 p.m., as at present, the mail will close at £• p.m., the late fee closing, time afc tho post office being 6.15 p.m. and at the railway station box 6.50 p.m., ten minutes before the departure of the express. Mails to conaect with this train will close at tli e principal suburban postoffices at 4.30 p.m.
