TO-MORROW'S RACES

TAVOMALE .prospects. / the all-ageo stakes. HELD OF FOUR LIKELY. [FOLEY MEMORIAL CONTEST. Very useful fields arc carded for llio ' •opening cf tho Avoudale Jockey Club's [Autumn Meeting to-morrow and tho vari- • o»s events should give. vise, to some keen / contests. The course is in first-class order after tho rain that fell last week-end •dkl with a continuation of yesterday's fine weather, the conditions for racing ■ I should be excellent. Of chief importance on to-niovvow's programme arc the All-Aged Stakes, the Foley Memorial Handicap and tho Hailway' Handicap, and these races ave all creating considerable interest. The field for the All-Aged Stakes is small and it is probable that there may not b c more than four runners, as Easter Time and Grand Sport may start, in other races. However, what is lacking in numbers •will be well compensated for by the quality'of the field and'tho contest should provo highly interesting. Lady Quex and Gadland.

f One "of Hie candidates, Lady Quc.x, was successful two years ago and also ran • third last, year and it is confidently expected that she will make another bold bid for honours this time. Lady Quex demonstrate'.! that she was very fit by her good second in the Easter Handicap last week and on that form she may be preferred to C'adland r.nd Golden Wings, although Cadland defeated her when they met in the Xorth Island Challenge Stakes, run oyer seven furlongs, at Trentliam last month. On that occasion she was conceding 21b. to Cadland, whereas tho position i:s now reversed and the furlong /less- will certainly not b 0 to her disadvantage. The last occasion oil which Lady Quox and Cadland met at six fmlongs was in the 'Jackson Stakes at Wanganui in February,- when Lady Quex won with 9.0 by a length from Hunting Cry, with Cadland, 9.3, another head away third. On that form Lady Quex looks the likelier of the two to score on this occasion and taking a line, through her running in ( the Railway Handicap afc Trentliam last month, when she just failed by a head to concede Golden Wings 131b., she should again befit the/ three-year-old. Possibly Golden Wings, who sprinted brilliantly yesterday., has improved a little in the me&irtime, but form and figures aro in favour of Ladv' Quex. A -Brilliant Two-year-old.

The only other candidate besides those /previously mentioned who is likely to claim serious consideration is Tea Trader, brilliant, two-year old, who just failed in the last furlong of the seven furlongs in ihe Great Northern Champagne Stakes last week. As horses of his ago have won tho race twice in the past three years, Tea Trader's prospects must be highly esteemed, more especially as he is not penalised to the same extent as Gay Ballerina and Bronze Eagle were when they were victorious. At six furlongs Tea Trader has demonstrated that he is a really good colt and, although his tendency to hang 011 right-handed courses will not be to his advantage, ho is likely to test'the best of the older horses seriously. It rs probable 'that he and Lady Quex ■will be the favourites. A good field of 15 remains in the Fo\ey Memorial Handicap and the issue is very open. After his good efforts at Ellerslie,. Great , Star must have an excellent, ctance if started. He is also in the Railway Handicap and it is not known ' definitely which race will be his mission, but his owner may prefer to tackle the middle distance. Puriri Park, who did not get-a good run in the Easter Handicap, is likely to make his presence felt and others worthy of seiious consideration are Awaken, Gibraltar, Speed mint and King's Archer. Speedmint was not altogether judiciously ridden when defeated in the Autumn Handicap and her J run in that race was certainly good enough for her to have bright prospects here. Wide Range of Fancies. Gibraltar's latest form has been eon- ) and Awaken is another who has been running very solid races without managing to win. Chief Joy has disappointed in his last few starts, but King's. Archer was never better than at present and should help to make the con-,/tes-t interesting. None of the others makes any particular appeal, but Grand Tea should be capable of a sound performance if produced fit. Present indications are that fancies will take a fairly wide range and horses likely'to be in strong demand are Great Star, Speedmint and Gibraltar. Some smart sprinters figure in the Railway Handicap and an interesting contest is assured. If started, Great Star will not he 'out of it. and others possessing good prospects are. Easter Time, Huntingdon and High Comedy. Easter Time was , a good fourth at Ellerslie and as lie looks to have improved since that race lie may do a lot better here. There, are also *oni<3 possibilities among the others, and the likeliest of these may be Tea Chat. Garipaf, and Sunny Sky. It, should be a £ f| lid «e{t;ng race and the favourites may include Easter Time, High Comedy and Huntingdon.

TAKANINI TRACK NEWS. CHIEF JOY'S MILE GALLOP. .
