SALE OF USED TIMBER.
HARBOUR BOARD AUCTION. BIDDING BY THREEPENCES. Bidding by threepences was a feature of a sale of second-hand timber conducted at the Central Wharf yesterday by a firm of city auctioneers on behalf of the Auckland Harbour' Board. In addition to rintu totalling 10,000 ft., Oregon pino totalling 10.000 ft., and 100 ft, of totara, a, number of cement asbestos files, a quantity of asbestos sheeting and about 800 ft. of galvanised iron piping with supports vvcir* offered. 'J'hero was no reserve on any of tho lots, which comprised materials removed from wharf sheds during roof-repairing operations. There was a fair atlendanco at the sale, but tho number of buyers was not great, a large proportion of those present being there through curiosity. Tho timber, which was in a varying state of preservation, was sold cheaply, prices ranging from 5s to 9s 3d a 100 ft., bidding advancing slowly by threepences. Other hits suitable for firewood attracted good bidding, a largo sack bringing 12s. An offering of 400 ft. of piping with supports ,'olrl for £l. Us ater bidding had opened at ss, while a second lot of tho samo quantity drew a final bid of £2 10s.
