ANOTHER WIN FOR JOHNS. 'amateur bouts next month. Harry .Johns, of Auckland, holder of (lie professional light-weight boxing championship of New Zealand, etilinnccd his reputation when ho defeated Johnnie Leckie at Groymouth on Saturday night. This was (he second occasion upon which (he pair had met, Johns having defeated his opponent in Auckland some ninnfhs ago. In each case the contest went the full 15 rounds.' The message from Greymouth, stating that Johns won practically every round and showed superior ringcraft over such fin experienced opponent', will he hailed with delight by the Aucklandor's many supporters. Several Auckland amateurs competed with success at the Easter tournament promoted at Rotorua. and this will serve as an excellent, preliminary to the amateur tourney which has been arranged by the Northern Boxing Association for April 18 and 19- There are so many good amateurs attached to the various gymnasia in Auckland that (ho Northern -Association should be. well rewarded for its enterprise. An American account "f (he heavyweight contest, between .Max Bner and Jom lieeney, the ex-New Zealander. in San Francisco last month, states thai, Kofncy won <h<? first three rounds. Tffi was badly jolted by a heavy right in tho fifth and never really recovered from it. lieeney was very tired ill the. tenth and final round and it was only his indomitable spirit which permitted him (o remain on his feet.
