The Wellington provincial golf championship tournament concluded at the Heietaunga links in perfect weather to-day and resulted in a victory for the Masterton player, .T. P. Hornabrook, wlio defeated the New Zealand amateur champion, liana Wagg, 2 and l. f in the semi-final thin morning. and then went on in the afternoon to outplay .T. H. Drake (Miramar) by 2 up in the final. . . Neither Wagg nor Hornabrook was at ni*= best in the semi-final. Hornabrook went out in 30 to Wngg's 41 and was 2 up at the turn. Playing very steadily, the Masterton colt did eight holes of (he home journey to take the match by 2 up and 1 > . 1 J1 In the other semi-final Drakes deadly putting proved too much for Harold Black (Miramar). Drake sank a 30ft. putt for 3 at. the first hole and ran down a putt of a similar distance for el half at the sixth. Drake went out in 35. placing him 3 up at the turn. Black held his own well on the run home but Drake was still 3 up at the 14tli and ran down another 30ft. putt for a 2 at the 15th. which cave him the match by 4 and 3. They finished out. the round, which Drake did in 72 to Black's 70._ Hornabrook played brilliant coif in the final, running out in 35 to Drake's 30. to stand 2 up at the turn. He sank a 22ft. putt for a two at the third and a. 12ft. putt for a two at the fifth. Drake reduced the leeway to one down at tho 17th, but pulled his tee shot at the home hole into the rough and was a trifle strong with his second, while Hornabrook was on (lie green in two, taking the 18th in 4 to 5. Hornnlirook took the championship hv 2 up. lie look 75 for the round to Drake's 78.
