THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. 1 BUSINESS FAIRLY ACTIVE. . Business was fairly active at the single call on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Thursday and 11 sales were completed. There was an improved demand for Government securities. Inscribed Stock, 1937, 5L per cent. (September-March), changed hands at the unaltered figure of £97. Other stock and bonds, notably 4J, per cent, issues, were sought, but holders would not reduce. In banks two sales took place. New Zealands sold at 43s 9d*, a rise of Is on the previous transaction, and Nationals of New Zealand sold at £3 7s 6d, a fall of 2s 6d on the last sale a month ago. Other banks, were also fceenly sought. Levels were steady in insurances and no sales resulted. New Zealands wore again wanted at 365, sellers 37s 6d, while South British were unchanged at 'l3s (buyers) and 50s (sellers). t No marked change was noticeable in the other sections. Colonial Sugars continued firm and sold at £36. New Zealand Paper Mills changed hands for the first time this year, the price being 18s 6d, a rise of 6d on the previous sale. In mining two parcels of Waihis sold unchanged at 16s, Waihi Grand Junctions were once more released at 3s 6d, and Mahakipawas sold at 32d. The Exchange closed on Thursday afternoon for the Easter holidays. It will reopen on Monday, April 4.
