SALARIES AGAIN REDUCED.

OTAMATEA COUNTY OFFICERS CLERK AND ENGINEERS. [r.Y TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PAPAROA, Thursday. The O'amatea County Council at yesterday's meeting considered the question of county staff salaries, which has been much discussed in the past few months. A reduction has been urged at ratepayers' meetings and by a deputation to tho council. After a short discussion, in which some members expressed the opinion that rate payers had over-stressed the agitation, the council decided to impose another 10 per cent, cut on the salaries of the engineer, clerk and assistant engineer. The salaries will be as follows from April 1, tho amounts prior to the two 10 per cent, cuts being shown in parentheses Engineer, £486 a vear (£600); clerk, £405 and free house (£500); assistant engineer, £283 10s (£350). Mr. Collins moved that the council defer consideration until the April meeting, in view of further Government economy proposals. There was no seconder. Mr. Smith advocated that the council npplv tho cut to the salaries of the office girls' and road workmen, but the proposal was not supported. The matter of the engineer's travelling allowance wa.j deferred until the next meeting.
