COMMISSION'S PROPOSALS. PROTESTS FROM TEACHERS. Strong exception ' o the recommendations of the National Expenditure Commission 011 the subject of economies in education was taken at a meeting of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Inst it lit p on Saturday. Ihe press was not admitted, a statement being issued at the conclusion of the meeting. The president, Mr. F. J. Fawcett, moved that the meeting should protest against the proposed centralisation of education administration in Wellington and the abolition of education boards. Other reso lutions of protest were directed against the proposed alteration in the school age. the withdrawal of bursaries from training college students and the proposed distinction between men and women teachers with regard to salary. Another motion protested against any further salary reductions f'»r teachers and other civil servants.
