STOCKS AND SHARES.
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. INCREASE IN BUSINESS. A more substantial volume of business was transacted on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, when trading covered a wide range. Price movements were irregular, but Government securities were definitely lower. There was a sale of 1937 5£ per cent, bonds at £97 5s and 1937 stock 5£ per cent, changed hands at £97. The 1938 4i per cent, stock was sought 15s higher at £9l 15s, but holders did not quote. Buyers returned to the market for 1933 and 1939 stock, both per cent., offering £9l 15s, but holders quoted only for 1939 at £94 and later at £95.
There was an increased turnover in banks. Commercials of Australia were released Id lower at 13s 10d, more being sought at the same price, but holders remained firm at 14s. New South Wales sold unchanged at £24 17s 6d, buyers subsequently weakening 5s to £24 10s, while holders quoted unchanged at £25 ss. After an early sale at 42s 6d New Zcalands appreciated and there was a transaction at 42s 9d. Buyers continued to quote unchanged at 42s 6d, but holders withdrew. A sale took place in National Bank of Australasia, contributing, at £4 16s.
Insurance levels did not vary. An early sale of New Zealands 3d higher at 37s was followed by offers which were reduced 3d to 36s 3d. Holders conceded a similar amount in quoting 37s 3d. There was a more buoyant tendency in other sections. Dalgetys changed hands at £7 Is, but no quotations were listed. New Zealand Breweries found a buyer 7d higher at 23s 9d, but closing quotations remained unaltered at 23s 3d and 23s 9d. There was a sale of Colonial Sugars unchanged at £36. Late quotations were retained in mining. Waihis changed hands Id lower at 15s lid, but holders quoted Id higher at 16s Id. There was a sale in Waihi Grand Junctions unchanged at 3s 6d and buyers later advanced their limits. CLOSING QUOTATIONS. Buyers. Sellers. £ u d £ s <i BANKS.
