THE CITY MARKETS. t YESTERDAY'S AUCTIONS. FIRMER VALUES FOR EGGS.' There were no material changes in the values for fruit at tlio Auckland City Markets yesterday. The scarcity of bananas which existed last week has been relieved to some extent' by a shipment °f about 9000 cases brought by the Tofua on Monday. The proportion of ripe fruit was nob large enough to reduce prices by any marked degree, but supplies of ripe bananas should be more plentiful by the end of the week. Tomatoes were again hard to quit, second grade and inferior lines being almost unsaleable. The low rates for To Kauwhata grapes showed no improvement. Cape gooseberries cam© forward in large quantities and sold readily at 3d to 4d a lb. A keen inquiry existed for peaches which were in fairly short supply. Heavy stocks of cauliflower, cabbage, potatoes and beans and adequate supplies of green peas, celery, kumaras and other seasonable vegetables were offered in the field produce section. Most lines met with a fair response. There was a poor demand for average stocks of poultry and the prices remained about the same as those realised last week. With the approach of Easter the better grades of eggs are firming in price and at yesterday's sales special grade hen and duck eggS brought Is 7£d a dozen, and A grade Is 6Jd a dozen.
