NORTHCOTE BOROUGH.
COMPLAINT BY FOOTBALLERS. The Northcote Roroogh Council met Inst evening, the Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, presiding. The opinion that local footballei s were being penalised by the use of the, recreation ground being granted to the Ramblers Club, which consists ch efly of Birkenhead residents, was cxpresied by the Mayor. Ho considered Birl enhead should provide its own playing ana. Mr. T. .101 l said there were local boys who could not afford to play as they would have to travel to the city while tin ir own ground was in use. The alloca'ion of grounds this year is to Vie discussed by the Reserves Commit Ice, which vill report to the council. The waterworks engineer reported that the level of Lake Pupuke had risen half an inch, being now J ft. ] 1 in. below 11i3h water mark. It had reached the lowest point, during the middle, of February, when if stood at 2ft. below sen level. It was decided to confer with the Birkenhead Borough Council on Apri' 13 regarding proposals for amalgamation. Permission to show moving pictures on Good Fridav was refused.
To date 77 per cent, of the rater levied tin's year have been paid. This is -lightly less than last year.
