ROTOTUNA SCHOOL.
JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. ENERGY OF EARLY SETTLERS. ["FROM 0"R OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Monday. Jubilee celebrations in connection with the Rototura school were held in the school grounds on Saturday. The school was built 51 years ago. Mr. W. Chitty, of Claudelandii, is the only surviving member of the fist committee. The roll-num-ber was at finst 30, and it has since varied from time to time. In 1912 it stood at 50. and to-day it has dropped to 18.
There was a large attendance at the jubilee celebrations, including 150 pupils and past pupils. Mr. R. Griffiths presided. Twr of the original pupils, Mr. F. W. Thomas, of Te llapa, and Mr. T. Martin, of Eototuna, were among those who answered the roll-call.
Mr. A. Pvimrose fepresented the Auckland Education Board, and paid a tribute to the energy and faith of the early settlers. When the school was built the financial condition of the people was far more difficult than it was to-day, he said, but by din) of perseverance and sacrifice the difficulties were overcome and the prosperity < f the district was established. Mr. F. A. Swarbrick, an old pupil, and Mr. T. H. Henderson, n member of the Waikato C< unty Council, also spoke. .
