THREE STOWAWAYS.
MEN ON SYDNEY STEAMER DECISION TO PAY THEIR FARES. DELAY CAUSED TO VESSEL > ' An unusual case of three stowaways on a passenger steamer paying their f areß when discovered and continuing the voyage as passengers occurred on the Union Company's steamer Maunganui yesterday. The vessel sailed from Auck. land in the afternoon for Sydney. The Maunganui left Prince's Wharf shortly after three o'clock, and she remained in -the stream for a considerable time to allow a search to be made for stowaways. One was discovered, but no attempt was made to disembark the man and the Maunganui commenced her voyage. About half an hour later, when the vessel was in the Rangitoto Channel, two more stowaways were found. The fact was communicated by wireless to the Auckland manager of the Union Company, who despatched a launch to bring the three stowaways on shore. The Maunganui returned to the harhour, and steamer and launch met off Hobson Bay at 4.40 o'clock. The ser. vices of the launch were not required however, because when the stowaways were about to disembark they paid their fares and were allowed to remain on th» steamer. Ten minutes later the Matn. ganui resumed her trip, after having been delayed for over an hour.
