A lady entered an outfitter's shop and said she wanted a present for an old gentleman. " How about a tie, madam ?" suggested the assistant. " Xo, lie wears a beard," objected the customer. " Well, a fancy waistcoat ?" pursued the man. " He has a very long beard,'' explained tlie lady. " In that case," the assistant replied, there's nothing for it hut carpet slippers !"
