Mr. and Mrs'. Rex Fairburn since their marriage in May have been residing in Surrey, England. Mrs. Rex Fairburn was Miss « locolyn Mays, who was so successful at the Slado School of Art, London.
Mrs. W. Casey, of Birkenhead, with her son Master Desmond Casey, the boy soprano, left for Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday. The young singer' will there undergo voice tests for the purpose of gramophone recordings.

At a gathering held recently at the Waipukurau Sanatorium a presentation was made to the retiring matron, Miss A. L. Lundon. In making the presentation of a leather suitcase, Dr. Lurnsden referred in complimentary terms to the services rendered during the five years of Miss Lundon's term, and expressed the wishes of the whole staff and p;»tients for her future welfare. The nursing staff also presented Miss Lundon with a handsome handbag.
A very enjoyable day was spent on the Manurewa croquet lawns on Thursday, when members of the club entertained Mesdames Forbes and Coxhead, winners of tl'e South Suburban croquet tournament. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being Mesdames Warlick and Margetts. Those present were Mesdames Forbes, Coxhead, Gallaher, Osborne, Fenwick, Brown, Whitton, Collie, ,Warlick, Woolley, Margetts, and the Misses Finlay and Knight.
The Women's Progress Club (Inc.) held its weekly meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the Higher Thought Temple, Wellington Street. A very instructive talk, continued from last week, was given by Mrs. Grace Silcock, president, on "Physical Fitness in Relation to Clothing, Rest and Bathing." There was a large attendance and several questions that were asked brought out fresh points of interest. A reading on "Tho Right Way to Fast" was given by Mrs. Robinson, and afternoon tea was served at the close of the meeting.
The annual party for the children on tho cradle-roll of the Onehunga branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Methodist Sunday school hall, Onehunga, on Thursday afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by the large gathering of parents and children. A varied and interesting programme of recitations, games and races, organised by Mrs. I'. W. Mountjoy, was carried out to the amusement of tho little ones as well as tho adults, while a bountiful afternoon lea and the distribution of gifts and prizes concluded a highly-successful function.
A pleasant little function was held in the Otahuhu Kindergarten on Wednesday when at a morning tea Miss F. Robertson, the director of studies, was presented with a handsome silver cake basket on behalf of tho children. Miss Robertson has resigned her duties on tho occasion of her approaching marriage. Tho presentation was made by Mr. Pilcher, chairman of tho parents' committee. Bouquets of flowers wcro presented by two of tho tiny children. A welcome was also extended by tho committee to Miss Marshall, who is taking iiver charge of the school. Clever impersonations of child characteristics were von by Miss Court, and solos were rendered by Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Gillies played i ho accompaniments.
