TOO MANY M.P.'S.
Sir, —I am pleased to see we have a few patriotic men in our Parliament who are not afraid to express their views in regard to reducing the numbers of Parliament. The machine has become too ponderous for the amount of work it has to do. I called attention some months ago to the fact that we are over-governed in a letter to the Herald, and suggested cutting down the number of members by half. Why should one million and a-half people claim to run our small Dominion into the expense of 80 members. It makes one wish for an Oliver Cromwell to walk into the House and clear them all out. The articles in recent issues of the Herald are eyeopeners to the long-suffering taxpayers who should rise as one man and demand the wicked waste to be stopped. I hope now the ball has started to roll there will be such a demand from the North Cape to the Bluff that the unnecessary burden we are called upon to bear will come to an end. J.E.
