WAGES AND THE BUDGET.

RESOLUTIONS AT WAIHI. [BY TET.KG.RAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI, Friday. The proposed amendments to the Arbitration Act and the possibility of further wage reductions were discussed at a public meeting last evening, convened by the Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt. Vigoruos protests wero entered by speakers. A resolution was carried opposing the suggested amendments to the Act, it being contended that these were designed for further reduction in wages, to the advantage of employers, with consequent damage to, the whole community. Other resolutions carried disapproved of tho principle of balancing the Budget by throwing thousands of civil servants and others out of work, while some escaped without sacrifico, and urged the Government to convert all loans at a lower rate of interest in balancing the Budget, and not to reduco the wages of workers.
