BROADCASTING BILL.
COMMISSION OF CONTROL. AUSTRALIAN PRESS OPPOSITION. CANBERRA. March 10. A hill to govern the control of broadcasting was introduced in the House of Representatives. It proposes to set, up a commission of five, including the chairman, who would be. empowered to appoint, their own general manager and other staff. The commission would be responsible for all aspects of broadcast programmes, (lie establishment of agencies for the collection of suitable news, permitting tho publication of magazines, the development of local talent, and later the organisation of a national orchestra. A newspaper conference at Melbourne telegraphed to the Prime Minister, Mr. -J. A. Lyons, protesting against the provision in the bill to permit the acceptance of advertising mailer by A class stations. It is contended that advertisements should not be accepted bj stations subsidised with public money.
