AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. BIG MEETING NEXT SATURDAY. SPLENDID ENTRIES RECEIVED.
Full arrangements for the Auckland provincial amateur athletic championships were made at a meeting of the Auckland Centre, Mr. J. P. Kalnugher, presiding.
The secretary, Mr. H. L. Towers, reported that the Domain linr] been secured also for March 11 and 12, for the New Zealand championships. Messrs. Kalaugher, Moon, Scents and Henry were appointed to select the Auckland athletic team for the New Zealand championships, and Mes3vs. J. Auckram, H. C. Wehster and W. Collins were appointed to select the cycling team to represent Auckland. Permits were granted the Papntoetoe Athletic Club for a sports meeting on April 2, and to the Elleralie Club for a meeting on April 9. It was resolved to add a 75 yards lad es' handicap to the programme for Saturday next.
It was agreed to hold a grand parade of all competitors at the New Zealand championships at 1.45 p.m. on. March 12, the competitors to parade in provincial groups. Following are the entries received for the championship events on Saturday neili:— 100 yards, 12; 220 yards, 10; 440 yards, 12; SSO yards, 9; one mile, 7; <1 miles, 8; 120 yards hurdles, 5; 440 yards hardies, 6; halfmile and mile walks, 8; shot, 11; discus, 8; javelin, 8; hammer, 3; pole jump, 3: long jump, 13; high jump, 9; hop, step and jump, 6; relay, Auckland, Hamilton, Mount Albert Old Boys, Technical Old Boys, University; 100 yards, ladies, 10; ladies' relay, Auckland, Rotorua, Ellerslie, Lynndale; 100 yards junior. 15; BSO yards junior, 12; 100 yards handicap, 25; 1000 yards handicap, 14. Cycle championships: Half-mile, 12; one mile, 14; five miles. 14; half-mile handicap, 31; two niles handicap, 27. Points for the club championship will be awarded as follows:—Six for first, three for second, and one for third place in each event. All competitors must wear their club colours and no athlete will be allowed to compete unless he is wearing his registered number. JUMPING RECORD BROKEN. L. Schneideman, the Amkland athlete, practising at the Domain hist evening for the Auckland provincial nroatenr athletic championships next Saturday, cleared 47ft. Giin. in the hop, step and jump, thi3 being two inches better than the New ZeaLmd record. ELLERSLIE CLUB EVENTS. The following handicaps have been declared for events to be decided by the Ellerslie Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club this evening, commencing at 6.15 o'clock:— 100 Yards Handicap.—O'Slea, scr; ltyall, 2lyds; Thompson, 35yds; Coorabes, 4yds: Muir, M. Coombes, Coney, syds; Thorpe, Crawford, McNicol. 6yds; Johnson, Milward, 7yds; Howarth, Ling, Conway, Byds; Morris, 9yds; O'Shannessy, 10yds; McNeil, 11yds; McAneny, 12yds. 440 Yards Handicap.—Ryall, scr; Thompson, syds; Silvester, 7yds; R. Coombes, 10yds; Coney, 12yds; Thorpe, Milward, 14yds; Crawford, M. Coombes, 16yds; Ling, 20yds; Wiltshire, 22yds; McNeil, 28yds; Little, 40yds.
