The North Island ha<! nine candidates for the Great Easter and six for tho Great Autumn.

Mr. G. l'ayne has arranged to send Spoon to Sydney by the Marama, which leaves Wellington next Friday. Ho will accompany the mare, and if successful in finding a suitable trainer will probably leave he'.- in Sydney. Spoon is in excellent older to undertake the trip and with 8.4 in her first important event, the 'Doncaster Handicap, she should bo capable of a creditable performance. Nightmarch, Admiral Drako and Compris will also be shipped by the same steamer. Nightmarch was given a. useful frallop over six furlongs the reverse .way -to-day-: He strodo out in his usual free style. He has been nominated for the Ruwaon Stakes at Rosehill, run on March 12, or four days after tlie trip over. He will probably be given a race in this weight-for-age event.. During McAulay's absence his team, comprising Tarquinius, Truo Shaft, Nightguard and Water Polo, is to be kept moving along, but there is a. chance that Nightguard may be put aside later as his wind trouble is more serious than was realised earlier. Indications point, to this promising looking gelding turning out a barren proposition for his owner, who expended 1500 guineas in his purchase. Charmeuse lias had t u ersy time over the past few months, but is now being allotted some sorious tasks in view of making an attempt to win her second Great Enster Handicap.
